For the ladies

Formal dress in deep red, wine, ivory or charcoal. Satin, crepe and chiffon all photograph beautifully. Heels are lovely, but consider a second pair for the dancing.

For the gentlemen

A well-cut suit in black, charcoal or navy. A merlot tie, bow tie or pocket square ties you to the day. Black or oxblood leather shoes, polished.

Kindly avoid

• White or anything bridal
• Denim, sneakers and casual sandals
• Bright prints that compete with the palette
• Hats that block a guest’s view during the ceremony
